That sounds ideal Lauri. You could report performance after 5 charge cycles and acknowledge that performance may vary from this reference point dependent upon variables such as No. of cycles, cell age, charging current etc. This would give a good idea of optimum cell performance without involving you in excessively time-consuming tests. Thanks again for your much appreciated efforts in this field.

Part 1
Many thanks for the prompt reply Lauri. Your comments make perfect sense and I appreciate the difficulties involved in testing rechargeable cells when so may variables are present. However if it’s any help, might I suggest that you construct a simple test based on the most likely manner in which such cells will be used by the average consumer?

I'll probably use a load level similar to a digital camera or some other high drain digital device. It will most likely be an automated repetitive charge-discharge type test using the same charger for each cell to see how they behave.

What I would really like to see is how the capacity changes after 100, 200 or 400 charge-discharge cycles with each cell but this would, of course, take way too long to do. -Lauri

Excellent battery reviews - the best on the web by far, and a huge help to those of us trying to find the best batteries for our high performance torches. Many thanks indeed.

P.S. Any chance of doing something similar with some of the best know AA and AAA rechargeables - Powerex, Hybrio, Eneloop
, Ansmann, Energizer, Duracell etc

Thanks. It is good to hear that people find this info useful.

You are not the only one to ask for a test on rechargeables and I just might consider doing one in the near future using few of the most common brands.

However, doing a test on rechargeables would not be so simple as there should be several more factors to evaluate than just plain capacity. If I understand correctly, most rechargeables reach their full capacity after several (perhaps 5 to 20) charge-discharge cycles and after that their performance degrades slowly. Also, in some cases higher capacity comes with reduced operational life (the amount of charge-discharge cycles). The charger type and charge mode used (faster or slower) will also affect the overall capacity and operational life.

I'll probably try to torture some cells using different chargers to see how they behave... -Lauri

It is nice to see that you have the webcam views on your webpage.

If you used icv99.net for that, how you managed to link it?

I'm not using icv99.net, the servers upload the pictures to my own local FTP server. They could, of course, upload the pictures to any accessible FTP server from where they could be linked. -Lauri

this is very useful information as I try to build up the same configuration. Do I see correct on the picture that the USB hub is connected to one of the two USB ports of the server? Did the server automatically recognize the two webcams after that?

Ivo

Yes, the hub is connected to the other USB port. The server detects the cameras connected to the hub automatically. I am using active hubs that have their own power supply as I plan to power the IR LEDs straight from the USB. -Lauri

Well done. You've inspired me to order the cam server. I have been running my cams only when the PC was on and using long, long USB extension cable.
